This year’s guest speaker is Justice James R.H. Turnbull.

Mr. Justice James Turnbull, a Hamilton native attended Westdale Collegiate, McMaster University (BA History), Queens University (LLB law) and York University (LLM Law).

After excelling at football with the Queens Golden Gaels he declined a draft by the CFL’s BC Lions and pursued a successful law career as a Hamilton trial lawyer until his appointment, in 2005, to the Superior Court of Ontario where he now serves.

Jim resides in Hamilton with his wife, Joan, whom he met at Queens and they have two adult children, Mark, 29, and Ann, 25.

In addition to his legal and judicial life, Justice Turnbull leads a very active life of public service including assisting in the leadership of a movement that has developed several dozens of men’s weekly early morning small-groups for 25 years.

As a result of his experience on a short term school construction mission to Haiti in 1989, Jim was moved to found and still directs a movement of Hamilton volunteers called the “Joy and Hope of Haiti” which has provided all the requirements, including their own labour to construct 20 schools, a residential seminary and an orphanage for 35 children which they also finance and operate.
